So, it’s been a year and what have you done?

April 1, 2011

Have not updated this blog site for one thing. I’ll endeavor to be better about this from now on.

So, last post was about books…I just finished “Socialnomics: How Social Media Transforms the Way We Live and Do Business” (Erik Qualman) this week. He had some intersting ideas and insights about social media but in the future I hope he gets a better editor. Some passages were clunky, a few sentences made no sense and “fizzle” is not a positive thing as in the section header “Turning lemons into lemonade with fizzle” – I believe he was going for something along the lines of the old advertising saw of “You don’t sell the steak, you sell the sizzle”

Dear Erik, fizzle is what a firecracker fuse does right before it becomes a dud (it fizzles out) where something that has fizz, is effervescent and bubbly. Semantics, like spelling, does count.

Anyway, the next books will be Project Management related for class and Anthony Bourdain’s latest “Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook”

Feeling Bookish

May 21, 2010

The other day on the way to the gym I found myself behind a Bookmobile and was more than a little surprised to see that libraries still have them. Very cool in this day and age of Kindles, Nooks, and iPads to see a throwback to the printed word….though living in the heart of Silicon Valley it may have been a rolling download center for eBooks.

Personally, I prefer old fashioned paper books to reading long works, be they Operating Procedures for work or a novel, on my computer screen. Too many bad PDFs, I suppose.

Reading Now: Inbound Marketing (Brian Halligan, Dharmesh Shah)

Reading Next: Social Media 101 (Chris Brogan), Socialnomics: How Social Media Transforms the Way We Live and Do Business (Erik Qualman)

Recently Read: Trust Agents (Chris Brogan and Julien Smith), This is Not the Life I Ordered (Deborah Collins Stephens, Michealene Cristini Risley, Jackie Speier, Jan Yanehiro) and Wishful Drinking (Carrie Fisher — yes, that Carrie Fisher!)

Need to Read Again: Fast Forward MBA in Project Management (Eric Verzuh)
